“Therefore, stand firm. Let nothing move you”

Fear of the Final
Let Nothing Move You

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:50-58

Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 15:58

Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Let’s focus on this last verse of the passage we have been studying for the past three days.  The apostle starts this verse with the word, “Therefore.”

The old saying goes, “When you see a therefore in the scriptures, find out what it’s there for!”  Therefore is a word that connects two thoughts.  It tells us why the later thought ought to happen or be true, because of the former thought.

We’ve been discussing the fact that the fear of death is the “sting” non-believers experience when they consider their final days.  If sin is present in a person, there is reason for fear; fear cannot enter heaven.  The good news is that Jesus provides the solution.  Our faith in Him and in Him alone, should free us from the fear of death because Jesus removes sin from our lives.  Our faith in Jesus covers us with His righteousness and we are suited for heaven!

The apostle concludes this chapter with, “Therefore, stand firm.  Let nothing move you.”  The devil will throw doubts in your face.  Weaknesses in your human nature will show up as you try to walk with God.  Voices from our world will try to convince you that your faith is fantasy.  God’s Word proclaims to you: Stand firm—let nothing move you.  Dismiss all other voices and cling to Jesus and the promise of eternity with God.  It is yours, as you walk in faith in Jesus!

Father, my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus Christ and His righteousness!  In Jesus’s name, amen.
