He is All-Present
Can Anyone Hide? – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 23:21-23
Key Verse: Jeremiah 23:24
Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him?” declares the Lord. “Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the Lord.
Jeremiah, under the inspiration of God’s Spirit, asked the false prophets this question: “Can anyone hide in secret places so God can’t see them?” Seems like a silly question to ask, yet don’t we all forget this basic truth? The next time you honk your horn in frustration at someone, ask yourself if you would have done that if God were physically present in the passenger seat. Or, the next time you watch your favorite TV show or go to the movies, what decisions would you make if you could see God walking beside you?
Jeremiah 23:23 asks a rhetorical question: “Am I only a God nearby and not a God far away?” Why wouldn’t we all realize that God, indeed, is literally in the passenger seat of our car and sitting beside us at the movies? “God is omnipresent” seems like an aloof term, yet think of its implications. You and I will not have a conversation today without God standing in the midst of it. We will not have a thought in our minds that can be hidden from God. He is in our thoughts. God is a God who declares of Himself that He is everywhere and sees everything.
Our world has taught us to think in terms of not getting caught in our wrong doings. We think, “no one will see me,” as we contemplate our temptations. The Bible is clear that the “Judge of all the ages” records are accurate because He will be everywhere you are.
“Father, make me more conscious of your presence in my life today. Help me live a lifestyle that I would choose if I could see you with my physical eyes. In Jesus’ Name, amen.”
