Embrace His Life on Earth
Prayer Life – Part 1
Scripture Reading: John 17:1-5
Key Verse: Matthew 14:23
After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone
This week is about looking at the life of Jesus as He lived it on earth. We embrace His physical life because it is our model to follow for our daily life. In today’s scriptures, both in Matthew and John, we see that Jesus prayed. Let’s take a moment and study the implications of Jesus, the Son of God, praying.
First, it is a clear symbol of the Trinity. It reminds us that there is an “us” in the Godhead. As Genesis 1:26 clearly states: “Then God said, let us make man in our likeness.” Jesus was all God and all man while on earth. While Jesus was on earth, He let His disciples know that He was God (John 14:8-10). This concept of the Trinity is illustrated by Jesus’ prayers. He is praying, not to Himself, but to God the Father—the first person of the Trinity. We must embrace the Trinity to be fully developed followers!
Secondly, Jesus’ prayer life is a powerful reminder of the importance of prayer itself! This is not a “fake job;” Jesus felt the need to pray—to talk to His heavenly Father. What does that say to you? Surely it reminds us of how critical prayer is to our walk with God. We need a daily connecting time with our heavenly Father. We must slow our lives down enough to include quiet time with the God who wants to make us into an image of Himself!
Father, I will take control of my schedule and make sure we have time to connect. Thank you for the privilege of prayer time. In Jesus’ name, amen.
