Series: “The Voice”
Today: “What the Voice Speaks”
Scripture: John 10:7-10 Therefore Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
Intro: Jesus said He came to give us life and life abundantly (or “to the full”).
A. The Greek word for abundant : Perissos.
* They would use “perissos” when pointing to something that’s more than necessary —superior.
B. God’s voice will always fall in some category of perissos—extraordinary.
I. GOD’S VOICE SPEAKS OF A PEACE-FILLED EXISTENCE.
A. Jesus reminded us that He gives us peace!
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
B. Christ followers must demand a peaceful existence!
1. The evil one will fight us !
2. When our flesh gets fired up, thoughts of worry, fear, stress…these voices come on strong!
3. We must be promise claimers and keepers !
II. GOD’S VOICE SPEAKS OF MORAL EXCELLENCE.
* Abundant life gives us more than necessary to be holy people.
1 John 4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
III. GOD’S VOICE SPEAKS OF FUTURE EXPECTATIONS .
A. The Apostle Paul expresses this clearly:
Ephesians 1:17-18 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints (emphasis added)
B. If your life on earth must resemble heaven in order to trust God , you are going to walk away sad!
Conclusion: Be careful how you judge the voices in your head.
1. Evaluate their content .
2. Compare the content to Scripture .
3. Determine to override the voice of the evil one.
