Are People Bugging You?
Adulterous People – Part 2
Scripture Reading: James 4:1-6
Key Verse: James 4:4
You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
We understand that a person is an adulterous person when they allow themselves to give their affections to anyone other than their spouse. James uses this concept for people who say they love God but give their affections to the world and worldly ways. In this discussion of having fights and quarrels with those around us, we become “adulterous” if we don’t demand kindness in our relationships. Jesus reminded us that the second greatest command is to love people as we love ourselves.
This week’s theme is entitled: “Do People Bug You?” The answer is the same for all of us. Yes, at times people are going to bug us! It would help us if we would get out of bed each morning and tell ourselves: “Today I know that someone will probably bug me!” The next logical thought should be: how will I react to that? I hope that this kind of mental exercise will lead you to say a quick prayer for God’s help to love them anyway. It doesn’t take any true strength of character to treat people as they deserve. It takes great strength to look beyond people’s behavior and love them in Jesus’ name. Join me in living life as Jesus taught and modeled: treating everyone with kindness.
Father, as you live in me I will show love to those who bug me. I will ignore my human feelings and act in love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
