You Must Compromise to Succeed
Don’t Stop Growing
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 2:1-5
Key Verse: 1 Peter 2:2
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation
We believe that when someone believes in Jesus Christ, receives Him into their life, repents of sin and walks the daily life, they have been born again! They are not partially saved from sin. They are “full blown,” perfectly redeemed by God’s grace! There is no improvement needed for redemption!
The apostle Peter is not referring to the salvation of our souls when he speaks of growing in our scripture today. The apostle is describing the process that we are to enter after our salvation. He tells us to crave pure spiritual milk like babies do. Babies are not born into this world because of milk. Milk is essential after birth! So, it is in our walk with God. We are saved by faith and faith alone! After our new birth in Christ, we need spiritual milk to cause growth in our journey with God!
The question is not so much are we growing, as it is: are we taking in spiritual milk? If we are, growth will be a byproduct! The Bible describes, in many verses and various examples, what this spiritual milk will look like. Jesus spoke of and exampled prayer as an ingredient of spiritual milk. Meditating on the Word of God, the Bible, is also described as an essential ingredient of spiritual milk. Acts chapter two lets us have a snapshot of other ingredients such as devotion to worship and teaching opportunities, fellowship with other believers and communion, reminding us of what Jesus went through to redeem us! Are you drinking enough spiritual milk?
Father, I want to grow and be a strong influence in this world for you. Remind me when I’m getting malnourished in my spiritual life! In Jesus’ name, amen.
