Feelings can be fickle, faith stabilizes our lives.

Feelings Are Fickle:
Faith to Fear – Part 1

Scripture Reading:  1 Kings 19:1-9

Key Verse:  1 Kings 19:3

Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there

Over the next few days I want to remind us of the fact that, even though our feelings matter to God, we must realize they can be fickle.  One moment we can feel very strong and the next minute we can feel weak.  Some days we can easily face life with strong feelings of confidence, then the next day we falter in our faith!  Each of us has had the strong desire for some item that we felt we just had to have.  The next day we lost that strong feeling and decided not to spend the money!  (As a side note, this is a great argument for always giving yourself at least 24 hours before making a large purchase!)

Our scripture for today jumps into the middle of an event that the Prophet Elijah was having.  If you take the time to read 1 Kings 18, you will read the exciting victory Elijah had over 450 prophets of Baal, a false god.  God did an amazing miracle through Elijah and he came out of this moment looking like a mighty man of faith!  The people of God repented of their wavering between the pagan false god and Israel’s one and only true God!  There is no doubt in my mind that Elijah was feeling great about his God and even himself; God had used him mightily!

Now we pick up the story in chapter 19.  In verse three we read: “Elijah was afraid…”  That seems like an impossible emotion for a man who had just experienced the mighty hand of God moving in his behalf!  Feelings are fickle!  One moment Elijah was confident, the next he was fearful.  (More tomorrow.)

Father, help me fight through some emotions that come and go.  I want to be mature in my faith and stable in my lifestyle.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
