Are your meditations (your thought life) full of complaints or thankfulness?

When We Are Thankful

Scripture Reading: Psalm 104:33-35

Key Verse: Psalm 104:34

May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord.

Surrounding our verse for today are a lot of verses that speak of praise. The Psalmist writes that he wants his meditations to be pleasing to the Lord. Surely it is true that when our meditations are full of thank- fulness, God is pleased.

What is meditation? Meditation is basically describing our thinking pattern. It may be intentional meditation where we take some time to simply think or it may be that we are meditating about things in our lives. That’s a rather unintentional pattern. Someone has said worry is meditating on the problems of your life. We know that this pattern of meditation is not pleasing to God!

Amid our problems, when we intentionally meditate on the blessings of God, He is pleased! Have you thought about what you’ve been thinking about lately? Let me suggest a good exercise: Take note of some of the thoughts that come to mind. Are your thoughts about needs, hurts, complaints, etc? How much do you think about your blessings, the good things in your life? When you do consider your blessings, is it only about material things? Do you thank God for your family, your job, your friends? If your health is poor, do you thank God for the part that is in good health? Let’s determine to be more positive, more thankful for all we have been given. It will delight God!

Father, I will meditate on the good things I enjoy, giving you the praise that you deserve. You are the giver of all good things! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
