Do you know what I know?

God becomes our Father, with all the rich meaning of fatherhood, because of Jesus

I Know I Received the Savior
Receiving as a Child

Scripture Reading: Matthew 19:13-15

Key Verse: John 1:12

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

As we finish our thoughts from the last three days on John 1:11-12, we come to the heart of the message—the results of receiving Jesus as the Savior! Once we understand the personhood of Jesus and truly open our hearts to all He represents, then God gives us the right to become a child of His!

I find it interesting that the icon for our salvation is a “child.” We become children of God. God becomes our Father, with all the rich meaning of fatherhood. In our suggested additional reading section for today, Jesus explains that the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these, referring to children. Our salvation doesn’t make us children but should make us childlike in our approach to our Father in heaven! Think about this wonderful verse we’ve been studying: Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed on His name, he gave the right to become children! God knew we could understand this verbiage of parent/child relationships. When we have children, we give them rights to live in our house, eat our food, and enjoy clothing for their bodies. This is the wonderful picture of those who have received Jesus: We are given rights to blessings and guidance, along with our salvation for eternity! Let’s obey Paul’s words in Philippians 4:4: Rejoice in the Lord always…Rejoice!

Father, thank you for your rich mercies and loving kindness that have given me the rights to walk with you as your child. Blessed be the Name. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
