Fearless

Modesty and purity in sexual matters is essential to growth in Christ

Fear of Falling From God
Adding to My Faith – Part 1

Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 1:4-7

Key Verse: 2 Peter 1:3

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

The scripture for today assures us that God’s divine power has provided to us believers all we need for life and godliness.  Our sincere effort is really all that is needed to fulfill our end of the covenant.  The apostle explains that is all we are responsible for, to assure that we will not fall from our secure position.

The first task we are given is to make every effort to add “goodness” to our lives in Christ.  The Greek language is more detailed than our English translation.  “Moral excellence” is a better translation as far as a literal meaning.  Modesty and purity in sexual matters is essential to the growth and stability of our faith.  Once we have, by faith, asked Jesus into our hearts, our first challenge will be to eliminate all immorality out of our daily lives.  When lust raises its ugly head, we must quickly resist the evil one, knowing he will flee if we sincerely resist.

“Knowledge” is the next addition the Apostle Peter lists.  Knowledge will be a byproduct of our effort to study the Bible, as well as faithful attendance to church services, being part of a small group and personal study.  If we make a sincere effort in participating in these activities, they will produce knowledge.

Father, thank you for keeping me safe from the attacks of the evil one.  I will do my part in growing my faith.  In Jesus’s name, amen.
