Your Neighbor is a Person, Not a Prospect
Eager to Do Good! – Part 1

Scripture Reading: Titus 2:11-15

Key Verse: Titus 2:14

…who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

The subject matter for these days of our devotional is about how we treat people who are far from God.  The title summarizes the bottom line: They are people, not prospects.  The very word “people” should remind Christ followers that that means eternal souls.  Plants, animals and manmade materials should never incite passion like an eternal soul does for us who believe the Bible.  When we deal with people who are not Christ followers, we should handle with care!  When we come to grips with the realities of hell, we will never want anyone to go there!

Our suggested additional reading for today’s devotional starts with God’s view of all this: “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.”  This confirms a more well-known verse: “For God so loved the world (people) that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, emphasis mine).  Our printed key verse for today gives us our job description in the work of helping others come to our Savior: “Who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for Himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what is good.”  Those last six words are our marching orders: eager to do what is good!

Our job is not to save people from sin or even convince them of Jesus.  Our job is to do what is good!  (Continued)

Father, I will do my job today!  I will look for ways to be good and do good, especially to those who need to accept you as their Savior.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
