The Importance of Relating
As Much as Possible – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Romans 12:17-21
Key Verse: Romans 12:18
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
The suggested additional reading is very important to our discussion today. I hope you can take a moment and read it. We are talking about the importance or relating to our relations. These verses give great instructions and reminders on how to make this happen!
The phrase in our printed key verse that I want to study today is “as far as it depends on you.” In other words, live in peace with everyone as much as possible. It takes at least two people to form a relationship. It also takes two people to maintain that relationship. As God’s children, we are to challenge ourselves to do everything within our power to live in peace with people in our circle. Yesterday’s devotional pointed to three New Testament scriptures that used the phrase, “make every effort.” These fit today’s theme of doing all we know to do to live in peace with everyone.
We will run into people that just do not make every effort to live in peace. In fact, it seems they do just the opposite, making every effort to stir up trouble and/or drama in their relationships. There will be times we pull away from people who, in spite of our efforts, do not want to live at peace! Before you pull out of a relationship, be sure to honestly evaluate your own efforts!
Father, give me wisdom and a discerning heart in order to judge my efforts honestly in tough relationships. Help me to love as you love. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
