I Have the Power

Are you willing to deny a want of your flesh, if gratifying it would grieve God’s heart?

The Power to Commit
Make the Commitment – Part 2

Scripture Reading: Romans 12:1-8

Key Verse: Romans 12:1

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship.

As we continue yesterday’s theme, we want to look at a life lived in full commitment. If God deserves commitment, we should understand exactly what that looks like. The first step is the mental and verbal acknowledgement of His worthiness. Once we hear that God wants to move us from the repentance of our sins to a fully devoted lifestyle, we must wrestle with that concept until we affirm it! Have you concluded, after serious examination, that God wants and deserves a fully committed you? No doublemindedness allowed. God gets my full attention and obedience.

After you make the verbal affirmation, the second step is to put it into daily practice. As you go through your day, there will be conflicts between what your flesh wants and what your spirit knows God wants. Who wins? A fully committed person has determined that they will allow their flesh to grieve before they will let God grieve. Paul wrote the words: Living sacrifice. We live our life ready to sacrifice our wants for God’s wants, when they come into conflict! Are you willing to deny a want of your flesh, if gratifying it would grieve God’s heart? If so, you are a living sacrifice before God!

Finally, the apostle wants us to realize that this lifestyle, when lived out, becomes our true spiritual worship. It is the lifestyle that must back up our songs of worship that we sing to God!

Father, I want to be a true worshipper. I present myself to you as a living sacrifice. I will deny self in order to always please you! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
