Many will reject God’s gracious gift, but all are invited!

The Value of One
Who Can be Saved?

Scripture Reading: 1 Timothy 2:1-8

Key Verse: 1 Timothy 2:3-4

This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

There is a theological stance that says God does not choose all people to be saved.  The term for this interpretation is predestination.  From this perspective, you are either pre-determined by God to be saved or you are pre-determined to be lost.  The Bible certainly uses the term predestination.  However, it is my opinion that this describes God’s pre-determination of what to do with and how to bless those that choose to accept and believe in Jesus.  Ephesians 1:4-5 tells us that God predestined all those who would decide to accept Jesus that they would be holy, blameless, and adopted into God’s family.

In our scripture for today, Paul is instructing Timothy in this young man’s theology.  He tells Timothy that it is “God’s will”…God wants all men to be saved.  John 3:16 seems so obvious in making this point, that I’m amazed how anyone could miss it: “For God so loved the world…that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (emphasis mine.)

Don’t allow anyone to tell you that the Bible isn’t offering every single living soul an opportunity to choose Jesus.  The welcome mat has been set out by a God who invites all and wants all men to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth!  Many will reject God’s gracious gift, but all are invited!

Father, I praise you for your love for me, as well as everyone!  May I live with such an attitude that everyone will feel welcomed to your family.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
