Living in Harmony – Part 7

Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 3:8-12

Key Verse: 1 Peter 3:8

Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.

The Apostle Peter wraps this section up with a quote from Psalm 34:12: “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.”

I know you want to love life and see good days—that is true of all of us. The question is: Are we able to trust God and His Word on how to achieve these goals? How often does a person’s tongue get him in trouble? Yes, our words come spilling out, without thought, and wreck a good day. We can’t expect to enjoy life and have good days while we lack control over our tongue. Sometimes it is deceitful words that get us into trouble or extend our trouble. We recently watched an Olympian wreck the good days he was having in Rio, with poor choices. Then he extended and compounded his trouble by being deceitful about it.

God’s ways may seem, at times, hard to follow, but, in reality, it is the world’s ways that will cause us the most pain—without exception. A person’s lies and deception may delay the pain, but our sins will be found out and the pain will be there. Listen to God’s Word; turn from evil and do good—seek peace and pursue it.

Father, thanks for providing the path for us to enjoy life and see good days! I will follow you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
