How to Hear From God

When the sermon speaks directly into your heart, that is the “God-part” of the preaching

Ways to Listen to God
God’s Communication Staff – Part 2

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:11 LB

Some of us have been given special ability as apostles; to others he has given the gift of being able to preach well; some have special ability in winning people to Christ, helping them to trust him as their Savior; still others have a gift for caring for God’s people as a shepherd does his sheep, leading and teaching them in the ways of God.

God’s communication staff is divided up into at least three sections. The first section is what I’m calling the “General Truth Communication Department.” The Apostle Paul calls this department: preachers. These preachers are gifted by God to be effective in speaking for God on many different subjects. This department of God’s communication staff deals with every area of our lives as they relate to God. Comments from those listening to these preachers commonly are: “It seemed the preacher was speaking directly to me.” These comments, once again, indicate the “God-part” of the preaching. No one can accomplish this on their own!

The second section of God’s communication team is what I’m calling the “Salvation Communicators.” God gives special gifts to certain members of His team to be especially effective in winning people to Jesus Christ! As our scripture says, “helping them to trust Him as their Savior”! This department deals directly with one market: People who need to be saved! Once they are saved, the other departments take over to create growth within the new believer.

The third section of God’s communication staff is what I’m calling the “Small Group/Shepherd Team.” The Apostle Paul describes their job well: “Still others have a gift for caring for God’s people”! This team has “divine” talent in seeing hurting people and stepping in to offer God’s comfort and help. They communicate through loving actions!

Father, I am willing to serve you wherever you deem best for me. Please show me, and then gift me according to your plan for me. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
