Your family needs relationships—healthy, rich and Godly relationships

Memories – Part 2

Scripture Reading: John 3:17-21

Key Verse: John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

As we finish up our thoughts on February’s theme of “Family Road Trip,” I hope you will remember one phrase at least: “It’s all about the relationship!”  That phrase is true when God sent Jesus to our world.  Our world had plenty of religions; we didn’t need one more.  God was focusing on relationships when He, in love, sent Jesus to walk upon the earth.  God wanted a relationship with us, not rule obeyers; legalistically following routines out of obligation!  God loves you and wants you to love Him.  Out of true love, we look for the ways that we can walk worthy of that love.

Your family needs relationships—healthy and rich relationships.  If a vacation doesn’t go as you hoped, don’t wreck relationships because of it.  If family members don’t perform all the expectations in the home, think about your relationship before you give out the discipline.  Parents, of course, need to help their kids learn respect for family rules.  However, don’t sacrifice your relationship at the altar of rules.  Learn how to be firm and kind!  Learn to show love in your discipline.  Ask God to help you control your anger, so that your discipline comes out of a logical and reasonable mind.  Don’t destroy what could have been a good memory over some childish behavior!

Father, grant me your inner strength to stay in control of my anger when I must discipline my children.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
