Scripture: Colossians 3:12-15 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
Intro: I’m calling this biblical GPS a Godly Parenting System .
I. THE GODLY PARENTING SYSTEM IS MORE CONCERNED WITH COMPASSION THAN COMMANDS.
* The Godly Parenting System isn’t void of firm rules , but they are saturated in compassion.
II. THE GODLY PARENTING SYSTEM DIRECTS YOU TO AUTHENTIC KINDNESS NOT PERMISSIVE PARENTING.
A. Unfortunately, “permissive parenting” looks and feels kinder than authentic kindness.
* Matthew 18:9 might be the kindest words in the Bible:
Matthew 18:9 And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.
B. Indulgent, permissive parenting is focused on the ease of the moment, but loses sight of the pain in the future !
III. THE GODLY PARENTING SYSTEM IS SATURATED WITH HUMILITY .
A. Parenting has a vast learning curve. You are going to get a lot of things wrong— admit it .
B. The biblical GPS will guide you to confess your failures and seek forgiveness for wrongs.
Conclusion: A major aspect of GPS is recalculating .
* Inner peace is God’s GPS voice.
vs. 15 – “Let the peace of Christ rule in your heart.”
