When you have a God-given passion, you won’t need to push yourself on other people

The Gospel Unifies
Grace for Ministry – Part 3

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:7-16

Key Verse: Galatians 2:9

In fact, James, Peter, and John, who were known as pillars of the church, recognized the gift God had given me, and they accepted Barnabas and me as their co-workers. They encouraged us to keep preaching to the Gentiles, while they continued their work with the Jews.

Warning! Our desires for participation in God’s kingdom can be our desires only—not God’s! After yesterday’s devotional, it is necessary to realize that our own humanness will get in the way, at times, of truly finding our place in God’s kingdom. One example that I have seen over the years is a person’s desire to be part of the worship teams. They love music, but the truth is they could not sing well! It’s hard to tell people that and some well-meaning friends tell them they sound good because it’s hard to tell them the truth!

When you have a God-given passion, you won’t need to push yourself on other people; they will see it and come seeking you! Yes, you need to let the leaders know you are interested and, in the case of worship, try out in an audition. But after that, don’t push hard—let God open the doors for you.

If you are not sure about where your passions lie in the kingdom, try out different ministry opportunities. It’s ok to be honest and tell the leaders of that ministry that it’s not for you. That doesn’t make you a bad Christian! Keep experimenting with different areas of ministry until one clicks and you realize it’s the one that feels right. When this happens, you’ll get unsolicited confirmations from the body of Christ. Try to discern the friendly pat on the back from the sincere comments that God was using you.

Father, thank you for gifting me. I will use it to your glory as you see fit. In Jesus’ name, amen.
