The Holy Spirit – Part 2

Scripture Reading: John 14:15-27

Key Verse: John 14:26

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

As Jesus was teaching about the fact that God’s Holy Spirit lives within us, He also spoke of our part in this interactive relationship.  Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching.  My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him” (John 14:23).  Note the plural indications: “we will come to him” and “make our home with him.”  In other words, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit; “we” will come and make our home with all true believers.

There is a lot of fellowship introduced in the New Testament.  We have fellowship with this divine Trinity.  The Apostle John wrote in his first epistle: “…and our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ” (1 John 1:3).  Of course, we have been studying that this is only possible via the Holy Spirit—the third person of the Trinity.  This wonderful fellowship is only possible, John wrote, “If we walk in the Light, as He is in the Light, then we have fellowship with one another…” (1 John 1:7).  In John’s Gospel, he pushes our responsibility as well: “Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me…” (John 14:21).  As with all “social media,” it takes more than one person to make it work!  So it is in our relationship with the Bible, it takes the Holy Spirit and our obedience.

Father, I will read your Word and obey what it trains me to do.  I want to walk in fellowship with you today!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
