Grumbling is Against God
Testing Brings Death – Part 2

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:1-3

Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 10:9

We should not test the Lord, as some of them did–and were killed by snakes.

Yesterday we studied the story in Numbers 21 of how God sent snakes and the destroying angel into the camp of Israel.  Many died that day because of their grumbling against God and against Moses, their leader.  God had been so good to them and was willing to grant them more blessings had they waited on His timing.  But they became impatient with God’s timing and tested God by grumbling.

Waiting on God and His perfect timing is hard for us humans.  We go ahead and buy things that He may have provided for us.  We speak freely of our misery in life, when we also proclaim to be a child of God.  How would it make you feel if your child was overheard telling their friends what a miserable failure you were as a provider?  God is the perfect Father to His children.  He knows exactly what we need and how to bless us with more than we could imagine.  He sees our future and everything He does or doesn’t do is based on what is best for His children!  Yet, in the midst of this unbelievably generous love, we complain and grumble about what we have or don’t have!

It is not wrong to ask God for more or better provisions.  However, let’s honor Him with trust in His wisdom on whatever His answer is to our request!

Father, thank you for your love and generosity with me.  I will praise and worship you, not grumble against you.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
