How to be Led by God

Fear of being unworthy of receiving direction from God is simply another tool in the devil’s hands

Don’t be Afraid
Unworthy

Scripture: Psalm 34:5-6

Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.
This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.

Some of our fear in this area of being led by God is in the question of why would God want to lead me? Many Christ followers struggle with feeling “worthy.” This especially comes into play when there is a delay. Why isn’t God leading me? For these Christ followers, the answer is easy – they aren’t worthy of God’s attention.

        For anyone having these thoughts and feelings, the Psalmist David has a personal testimony. In our scripture for today, David says: “This poor man called, and the Lord heard him.” This word “poor” speaks to me and says much more than a man who lacks material possessions. This word “poor” reminds me that the least gifted and the spiritually poor can call on God. When I am feeling very “poor in spirit” – unworthy of God’s loving guidance – God accepts me. This fear of being unworthy of receiving direction from God is simply another tool in the devil’s hands. Our enemy delights in accusing us falsely and condemning us for our human failures. Maybe you have been rejected by family and friends. Maybe you have lived life in a way that has brought pain and shame to you. God knows all that, but still seeks you out and offers love and forgiveness. God’s guidance is available to all who humbly ask and believe for it.

This poor man called, and the Lord heard him is truly my testimony as well. God truly grants wisdom without finding fault.

Father, amazing grace is the only appropriate description of your treatment of me. Today, I rely on that grace and seek your guidance. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
