Does your knowledge of God transform the way you live?

Turning Talking into Walking
Walking Like Jesus

Scripture Reading:  1 John 2:7-11

Key Verse: 1 John 2:6

Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

This month has been about the basics of the Bible.  We’ve studied how we ought to fear God.  After we learn to fear God, we move on to accept His Son Jesus.  Finally, the Bible explains that those who accept Jesus receive the Spirit of Jesus as their internal GPS, guiding believers into all truth!

This final week we all need to be reminded that head knowledge is of no value if it doesn’t turn into a daily walk with God.  In other words, does our knowledge transform the way we live?  Do we talk differently because of Jesus in us?  Do we treat our spouse with more love and respect because we have Jesus?   Do we prayerfully raise our children to love God, because we have Jesus?  At work, do we work with more integrity and diligence because we have Jesus?  Are our entertainment choices more wholesome because we have Jesus?

The Apostle John says it simply: Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.  What don’t we understand about that sentence?  It is true that we may not always know exactly how Jesus would handle a situation in our lives, but if we walk like Jesus in the ways we do know, God will make clear those things we are not sure of.  As the Apostle Paul wrote: “Only let us live up to what we have already attained (Philippians 3:16).

Father, I will do my best to walk as Jesus would walk today!  Please correct my failures and strengthen my weaknesses.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
