Don’t Fear

Scripture Reading: Luke 12:27-34

Key Verse: Luke 12:32

“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.

Please note the tone of our Key Verse for today. The phrase “do not be afraid, little flock” gives us the heart of Jesus and our Heavenly Father, full of compassion. No other person can understand our needs nor care about them like our Heavenly Father. No other person, including ourselves, can provide for us like our Heavenly Father. These facts should lead us to a life without fear!

Our additional reading section describes the basic needs of all life: clothing for the body, food and drink for our daily survival. Jesus reminds us that we don’t have to ask our Heavenly Father for these basics, He knows that we need them (Luke 12:31). God asks us to seek Him with all of our mind, heart and strength. As we do that, our Father will continually send more than adequate provisions for our daily life.

“Do not be afraid” is a repeated command throughout the Bible! The reason God commands this is because fear indicates lack of trust; fear reveals doubt about God. Fear, concerning our material possessions, shows a higher value on things than God would want for us. Fear will destroy our generosity to others, causing us to hoard. Fear makes us look like people without a loving God.

As Christ followers, we must challenge ourselves to focus on God’s heart of compassion and generosity! God is not trying to make us poor. He is trying to make us dependent and trusting children!

“Father, I will confront my fears with your Word. I will work in faith, full of confidence in your provisions for me! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
