Remember the GPS
GPS – Part 1

Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:12-17

Key verse: Colossians 3:12

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Many of us now depend more on our GPS than printed maps.  All of us remember the days of making sure we mapped out our destinations by looking at a physical map.  It wasn’t long until we turned to MapQuest to help us find our way.  We normally printed the MapQuest map and followed its instructions to our destinations.  Then came the Global Positional System—the GPS—to guide us via a little voice that called out the instructions.  If we get off track, the voice quickly yells out: Recalculating.

Families certainly need a GPS to guide them through the life journey.  The Bible provides the assistance for everyone who will listen.  This week I’m going to refer to these instructions as the Godly Parenting System.  God has a system; a plan for us as individual people and for families.  His system guides us through the complicated path of raising a family that is healthy and loving.  Jesus said that He came to give us life and life more abundant.  In my opinion, it is family that makes or breaks this idea of “life abundant.”  When our family life is dysfunctional, it is hard to spin that as abundant.  I hope you will buy into the Bible’s GPS.  It is a system you can trust to guide you as a spouse and parent; a system that will bless your family.

Father, I choose you.  I choose you to guide me.  I choose you to bring trustworthy guidance to me and my family.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
