Thinking Right When Things Go Wrong

Some of God’s tests look for the depth and reality of our faith in Him

Things Gone Wrong Can Be Testing
Test of Faith

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 11:1-6

Key Verse: Hebrews 11:7
By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

So far this week we have looked at the tests that God allows to come into our lives. Tests can be about our attitudes, words, and obedience.

A fourth area of testing, closely tied to obedience, is faith. Some tests look for the depth and reality of our faith in God. First Peter 1:7 confirms this truth:

These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold, though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

Today’s Scripture Reading is about the life of Noah, a godly man committed to righteous living. His faith in God’s words and warnings led him to build the ark in the middle of dry land. This made him different than his neighbors and they made fun of him and rejected his message. Noah’s actions seemed strange to others around him, and strange looks, quiet whispers, and blatant rejections became a real test for Noah’s faith.

When you decide to truly trust Jesus Christ as your Savior and decide to put your faith in God’s Word, expect a test. It may come, as it did for Noah, through people you care about. Rejection and isolation, because of your faith, can become a huge test that examines the depth of your faith in God.

God came through for Noah and He will for you!

Father, if You must test my faith, grant me courage and strength to pass the test with Your grace. In Jesus’s Name, amen.
