The Most Practical Way
Practical is Impactful – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:13-16
Key Verse: Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
Jesus is telling us in our scripture passage for today that practical love is impactful love. Jesus instructs us to be “salt and light” in this world. In other words, impact our world with a lifestyle that reflects God’s work in us. The only true way to impact anyone in a positive way is for them to feel and experience God’s love, which happens as it flows through us.
Jesus never gives a command without clear instructions on “how to”! In this command for us to be light and salt to our world, Jesus explains how: Let your light shine by doing good deeds. When good deeds improve someone’s lifestyle; when good deeds encourage someone’s day; when good deeds help heal a broken heart, then they have experienced our salt and light. These good deeds should start in the family of God and then move out into the world of broken people far from God.
Do you know someone who isn’t a believer? Do they have any issues that you might help them with? Yes, it might eat up some of your time, energy and money if you decide to get involved, but if you take that risk, God could be glorified, and they might be influenced to take some steps closer to accepting Christ as their Savior. Your reward in heaven will be great. Let your light shine!
Father, give me wisdom to creatively find ways to show your love to people I live and work with. I ask this in Jesus’ name, amen.
