I Know I Couldn’t Ignore the Savior
The Demons Pointed to Him
Scripture Reading: Mark 5:8-20
Key Verse: Mark 5:6-7
When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. [7] He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Swear to God that you won’t torture me!”
As we read through the New Testament, it is soon evident that the devil and all his demons knew that Jesus was the Savior. In our story for today, Jesus came upon a man filled with, at least, a thousand demons. The scripture makes it clear that it was the demons who were speaking to Jesus, not this poor man who had become their home. As Jesus demonstrated His authority over the demons, the disciples and all the people of that town could not ignore His divine nature! It was not the appointed time for these demons’ final judgment, so Jesus sent them into pigs, destroying their influence in that region. Everyone in that community may not have accepted Jesus, but nobody ignored Him!
How can people ignore a person who was proclaimed to be divine by the demons themselves? Read the Apostle James’ pointed words: “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that and shudder” (James 2:19). The righteous and the most unrighteous have never been able to ignore Him!
As you pray for your unsaved family members and friends, be encouraged by these lessons. Your prayers build the intensity of God “in their face” more and more. We can’t ask God to cross over their free moral agency, but we can trust that the Holy Spirit won’t let them ignore God’s love and mercies; the demons themselves couldn’t!
Father, please show yourself again to those for whom I’m praying. Please get in front of them and surround them with the sound of your voice! I pray in Jesus’ Name, amen.
