Living peaceful and quiet lives in godliness and holiness delights God

When We Are Thankful
Expressions of Gratitude – Part 2

Scripture Reading: 1 Timothy 1:15-17

Key Verse: 1 Timothy 2:2b-3

…live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior

Our scripture for today gives us another “this pleases God” phrase that we started yesterday. Today we find that when we live peaceful and quiet lives in godliness and holiness, we please God. These phrases speak of contentment in our lives. When we understand our many blessings, we can live a life of contentment.

Think of what the opposite looks like. Rather than being peaceful, we’re in turmoil. Rather than living a quiet life, we are always making noise, complaining and whining. People who are never content, always wanting more, would not be described as peaceful. This Thanksgiving holiday will remind us of our blessings and that is good, but we must remind ourselves each and every day of God’s blessings and be thankful!

I want today’s devotional thoughts to encourage all of us to do some reflecting. If someone were to look back over the last weeks or months of our lives, would they say of us: they are living a peaceful and quiet life? Would our conversations and behaviors back that up? Think for a moment of people you know. Do you know someone who is frantically racing through life, seeking more “stuff.” Do you know people who seldom speak of their blessings but are constantly talking about getting more? I’m sure you do not want to be that kind of person. Let’s express gratitude to God.

Father, it’s easy to get focused on my needs. Help me to live life focused on my blessings. Today I’ll live a peaceful life of godliness for you! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
