Five Godly Men and the Lies They Believed

If you are aware of some compromise present in your life, don’t delay in asking God for help to eliminate it

You Must Compromise to Succeed
Shore It Up

Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 1:12-15

Key Verse: 2 Peter 1:10

Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall,

Maybe you’ve done some landscaping that included shoring up a section of the ground or side of a wall. It was ok, but you wanted to make sure it stayed that way. Adding more dirt or driving a few stakes deep into the ground are both ways of ensuring that the look you want stays in place!

The apostle Peter speaks of this same idea in our spiritual lives. He tells us to be eager to shore up our relationship with God. In other words, do some things to make that relationship stronger and deeper! When we do, compromise will not be an option. When we are eager to add to our faith, the devil’s temptations to compromise repulse us more and more.

Our success in this life comes as a result of consistent effort and work. That is true in all areas of life and it is the truth that our scripture is painting regarding our walk with God. If we start compromising in that effort, it won’t be long until we will start compromising in our standards of ethics and morals. When we start down that slippery slope, our success is slipping through our fingers! This puts the responsibility on us; we can eagerly work at shoring up our walk with God or allow laziness to slip into our daily routine. The good news is: If you are aware of some compromise present in your life now, you can do something about it. Read the list that the apostle Peter makes in verses five through seven and start working them into your life.

Father, with your help, I will work hard today to add to my faith and shore it up. Holy Spirit, be my guide; Holy Spirit, my heart’s open wide! In Jesus’ name, amen.
