God did not leave us defenseless against fear; His Word (the Bible) is our ammunition

Fear’s Breeding Ground
Help for Our Unbelief – Part 3

Scripture Reading: Mark 9:17-29

Key Verse: Mark 9:24

Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

Fear is powerful and faith is hard. It is easy to allow fear to defeat us and paralyze us. However, God did not leave us defenseless against fear. He preserved His Word, the Bible, to give us direction and promises to overcome the obstacles of this world. This month I have tried to summarize some of the helps for the very common enemy: Fear. I have also tried to be honest about the difficulty of defeating the temptation to let fear take up residence in our minds. Our minds have wild imaginations and unfortunately can easily imagine the worst-case scenarios in almost every situation we find ourselves in. We must discipline our lives enough to take advantage of the weapons God has provided for us to fight fear.

This month we have looked at the danger of not seeing life as a war against the evil one. So, the challenge is to start each day with the attitude, “I must spend some time preparing for the war against my peace.” Give at least fifteen minutes each day to talk to God and read some Bible verses.

Another step in our preparation to defeat the evil one and his attempts to get us to fear is to search out God’s promises for our situation. Sometimes I write these verses on a 3×5 card and carry them with me. I may put them by my bedside and read them before going to sleep. When we go up against fear, it is a war and we must do everything we can to win it! Ask God to help you with your unbelief, He knows our struggles with trusting Him and is not mad at us for it. Practice resting in His care!

Father, I am weary of fear and need your help in defeating it. I rest in your love and care for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
