Our Job – Part 6
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 2:9-12
Key Verse: 1 Peter 2:9
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
As we said in yesterday’s devotional, we are to declare God’s praises to the world around us—that’s our job! Once we understand that it was God’s goodness and grace that called us out of our darkness, then it’s easy to praise Him! We have been invited to live in His wonderful light. Why wouldn’t we want to praise Him?
People around us, who are still living in the darkness of sin, need to see what life could look like; how they could, also, walk in God’s wonderful light! Declaring God’s praises, rather than declaring our doubts and disappointments, will make us stand out in a dark world. It’s unfortunate when Christ followers do more talking about their problems than their blessings. It’s harmful to our witness for God when we constantly declare how tough life is rather than how good God is! Who will want what we have if what we talk about most is our miseries?
Let’s all determine to declare God’s praises today, in every way we can. Let’s look for opportunities to talk about how good God has been to us. Let’s retell those times when God came through, at just the right time, to help us. Let’s be sure to put a smile on, even when we are going through a tough time. When an unbeliever sees that, we can tell them of a promise of God that we are claiming. Declare His praises!
Father, today I will focus on your goodness and praise you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
