De-Cluttering Your Mind
Attitudes of Our Minds – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:17-30
Key Verse: Ephesians 4:22-23
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds
Mst of us have heard the adage: Attitude is everything. There is a lot of truth in that phrase. Think about the days when your attitude is bad. Doesn’t it result in having a bad day? Our mind is a powerful determiner to the kind of day we will have. Obviously, it can’t control the circumstances that come our way. However, when our minds are de-cluttered from the junk of the world, we can handle the tougher circumstances in a more positive way. The opposite is true as well. When our minds are troubled, the slightest negative issue will seem beyond our ability to handle.
The Apostle Paul wrote that we are to be renewed in the attitude of our mind. We are to de-clutter our minds of the junk that once filled it; “our former way of life” (Ephesians 4:22). The apostle also speaks of the “deceitful desires” that filled our minds. We can all relate to that clutter! This worldly clutter in our minds leads to lying, outbursts of anger, stealing in various forms, and unwholesome talk (Ephesians 4:25-29).
If you recognize some of these symptoms in your life, I want to encourage you to deal with the cause before putting a band aid on the symptom. Examine the things that you are putting into your mind. Have you been cluttering your mind with unwholesome things? If so, don’t be surprised when the unwholesome comes out of your mouth. (Continued)
Father, help me to have complete honesty when examining the stuff I’m allowing to fill my mind. I want to be Spirit filled, not worldly saturated. In Jesus’ name, amen.
