Sadness
Something Must Die – Part 2

Scripture Reading: Galatians 2:15-21

Key Verse: Galatians 2:20

My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Have you decided what will die in your life? You don’t have a choice in dealing with this death issue—to ignore it is a choice to die spiritually and eternally. While God gives you breath, you have the opportunity to say “yes” to God’s gift of salvation that comes through Jesus Christ. Once you receive Christ, God will guide you to your own cross; a place of surrender to His way of doing life. At this point, you will have to decide who is in the driver’s seat of your life: You or God.

Are you willing to be sad at times in this life? Some people fight this and get themselves either deeply in debt or addicted by trying to avoid any sadness in life. In this world, sadness is part of our earthly experience, especially if you have decided to be a faithful follower of Jesus. Remember, I’m speaking of our immediate and surface emotions when we said “no” to the cravings of our flesh. Believers have great joy, deep in their souls, because we know we are at peace with God and on our way to eternal glory in heaven, but Jesus reminded us that this path to heaven is a narrow one and few will find it. In other words, few people will be willing to live with temporary sadness and disappointment in order to achieve our eternal rewards. Will you live today with an eternal perspective?

Father, I have made you Lord over my life. Please help me today to keep that vow. In Jesus’ name, amen.
