Know Thine Enemy - July 2018

The devil gives falsehoods, the insincere, the fake, leaves us in darkness, trapped by his lies

The Devil and Diversion
Masquerade

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 11:13-15

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 11:14

And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades
as an angel of light.

Jesus reminded us that His truth would set us free. That is what truth does, even if it hurts while it is doing it. It is also a fact that falsehood, the insincere, the fake, leaves us in darkness, trapped by its lies. In our key verse, Paul describes one of the schemes of the devil: masquerading. Some Christ followers can get diverted off the path by what seemed to be truth—light from God. Instead they eventually find out they had been fooled; lied to by the father of lies.

How can we avoid being led down a path of diversion? Let’s look at the basics given to us by God’s Word. First, pray about everything. Make prayer your first defense against being fooled by any “angel of light” that really isn’t light at all. Secondly, wait. Wait on the Lord. Don’t be rushed into decisions. If you are feeling pushed or being rushed by something or someone, it is likely not a good path! God does not need to rush us; He sees things far before we do and gives us time to process!

Third, always check and double check with the scriptures. Any thought or decision that doesn’t mesh with God’s Word is a diversion of the devil. Finally, go for godly advice. The Bible reminds us that “plans fail for lack of counsel” (Proverbs 15:22). Let’s be on the watch for the enemy as he masquerades before us!

Father, I want my love for you to grow in knowledge so that I can discern that which is best today! Come, Holy Spirit and grant me your guidance. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
