Selected to be Holy
The Holy Life – Part 2
Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 1:8-12
Key Verse: 2 Timothy 1:10
And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News.
As I clearly wrote about in yesterday’s devotional, the holy life is the best life and most enjoyable life we’ll ever be able to live on this earth. Money, fame or sex will never give any person the life that holy living can give us. However, I’m not saying the holy life is the easiest life; I said it was the best! You wouldn’t argue with me if I was talking about the health benefits of being in good shape. I wouldn’t struggle to convince you that it was a wonderful thing to be in great shape physically. Nor do I believe you would argue with me that achieving this wonderful state of being in great shape is not easy; in fact, it’s very hard. It’s much easier to be out of shape—no discipline needed. But many work at being in shape because of the health benefits.
If you really understand how wonderful the holy life is, you’ll understand how worth it it is to do the disciplines it takes to be holy. Most people in our Celebrate Recovery program understand how doing the easy life wrecks rather than blesses lives. They now are doing the hard work to achieve the blessed life of holy living. They are sick of being sick. They are sick of the pain. They are tired of the painful cycles of addiction—they want the holy life in Christ.
Father, I am ready to live out the spiritual disciplines that take me on the holy life journey. In Jesus’ name, amen.
