Life Plugged In

Charge into the enemy territory! Confront sin—tell the story of the cross—give hope to the hopeless

Plug In…Pull Forward
Go – Part 1

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 12:1-3

Key Verses: Matthew 28:19-20

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

The Key Verse for today is often referred to as the “Great Commission.” It is Jesus’ final words to His disciples before He returned to His Father in Heaven. Finals words are normally the most sincere and earnest words a person says. Final words leave a lasting impression on those left behind. These words are often repeated and discussed. This is certainly true of Jesus’ final words. They left a lasting impression and have been repeatedly discussed by millions! They are words that challenge and give direction to all who would want to follow the Jesus model. They are words that instruct all Christ followers to plug in and pull forward the Kingdom of God!

Our scripture starts with the word “therefore” and we must investigate what this word is there for! This transitional word points to the previous verse. Verse 18 is Jesus’ words concerning His own authority. Jesus tells the disciples that all authority has been given to Him. He has conquered death, the grave and hell. Jesus has won the victory over sin and the evil one. He has the power to dispense this authority as He deems. Therefore, or because of this authority, Jesus tells the disciples to go! They were not to hide out until Jesus returned. They were not to huddle in worship until Jesus returned. They were to go. Charge into the enemy territory! Confront sin—tell the story of the cross—give hope to the hopeless. This great commission told them to plug in and pull forward the Kingdom of God!

Father, I am determined not to be passive about this commission to me. Embolden me to charge enemy lines. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
