Grasping God’s Love – Part I

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 3:14-21

Key Verse: Ephesians 3:18
[I pray that you] may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.

The Apostle Paul prayed that God’s people would have the power to understand the dimensions of His love.

The Bible deals a lot with the absolute greatness of God’s love. The most obvious verse is John 3:16, the most widely known Bible verse even among unbelievers:

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

Also, the Book of Romans reminds us that God’s love was never based on us being sinless:

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

The Bible makes a case for God’s love being the highest love ever known:

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13)

There are many more verses about God’s love, but here is another:

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! (1 John 3:1)

The title for this week’s devotionals is “Grasping God’s Love”. God wants us to understand His love for us, though we will never be able to do so completely. That is why the Bible has so many verses about God’s love.

Someone might ask why it is so important for us to grasp God’s love. It is important because His love is why God does all that He does for people.

Someone might ask why God sent His Son to die for us. It is because of His immense love for all people.

Someone might ask why God cares about our problems. Again, it is because of His great love for us.

Someone might ask why God makes us His children and a part of His family. Once again, it is because of His glorious love for us.

Not only does God’s love answer lots of questions people have about Him, but it also gives us all the encouragement and security that we need in this life. Romans 8:35-39 reminds us that nothing can separate us from the love of God and that we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

Take time today to grasp God’s love for you!

Father, I praise You now and for the rest of my life for Your great love for me. Help me to grasp more of its dimensions as I grow in You. In Jesus’s Name I pray, amen.
