This Week: A Prayer for Joy-filled Living
Today: A Life Worthy
Scripture Reading: Psalm 112:1-7
Key Verse: Colossians 1:10
And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God
As this prayer unfolds we see that the first part leads logically to the second part. Yesterday we looked at requesting God to fill us with His will. Today we see why: So we can live a life worthy of Him. Webster uses words like “deserving, excellence; virtuous and meriting” to define the word worthy. God is deserving of our careful attention to living our life like He wants!
Think about a new employee going to his job and not caring about pleasing his boss. This employee is not respecting the person who holds his future employment in his hands. If that employee truly felt the job and his boss were worthy of his sincere efforts to give his best he would take action. This new worker would ask for evaluations. He would be attentive to all he knew was expected of him and seek to do even more than was expected!
Let’s not lose focus on the fact that God is worthy of our sincere best. He is watching and seeing our efforts to live a life that fits what we know would please Him. God also sees whether we go beyond what we know and seek what else would please Him. God watches carefully when we come to “forks in the road” that call for a decision to honor or dishonor Him. When we choose the broad path that the devil presents, God is grieved at our lack of passion for Him! When we read the benefits listed in Psalm 112, we realize why God is worthy of our best.
“Father, am I walking worthy of you? Please show me any offensive ways in my lifestyle. I want to honor you in all I do! I ask this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
