For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them up.
<a href="http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%203:16&version=NIV">John 3:16 is a very familiar verse to most people. This verse reminds us of God’s great love for the entire world. Does this love equal an invitation to all the world to join the family of God? It does not. The love of God only speaks of the motivation for the invitations to be sent out. Our key verse is where we find the actual invitation. Jesus makes it clear that no one can come to Him except the Father draws that person to Jesus. In other words, there must be a divine invitation to every person, an inner drawing to their spirit that causes that person to sense they are invited. This invitation is just that, an invitation, every person invited must decide to accept or reject God’s invitation to trust His Son, Jesus.
The Bible makes it clear that God’s will is that everyone be saved from the eternal punishment: “…God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:3-4). It is not logical that God wouldn’t invite everyone if it’s His Will that everyone be saved; everyone is invited, at some point in their lives, to come to Jesus.
It is obvious that not everyone invited will come to the “banquet.” Jesus made this clear in His parable in Matthew 11. This parable describes God’s heart to gather His created beings to Himself. God went to a great deal of effort to send prophets and His own Son, Jesus, to fill the banquet with all who would accept the invitation. Have you accepted His invitation? Are you walking worthy of His calling in your life? This is not a banquet that comes to an end. This is an invitation to a banquet that will last for eternity! Take it seriously, don’t live like you will never step into your eternity!
Father, I praise you for inviting me; I accept. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
