God Forgives

Scripture Reading: Colossians 2:6-14

Key Verse: Colossians 2:13

When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins…

The title of this devotional is so short and so simple: “God Forgives.” Doesn’t it feel good to say it—to hear the words coming out of your mouth—God forgives. Forgiveness is the healing balm for our deepest wounds. Forgiveness is the sweetest sound for a shame-filled heart. “You are forgiven” brings relief to a burdened soul that knows how horribly they have sinned.

The Apostle Paul, in our scripture for today, explains the profound truths of God’s forgiveness. This entire picture of forgiveness starts in Jesus Christ. It was in Christ that the circumcision of the heart was accomplished. Circumcision of the flesh was a ceremony that set apart God’s people from the heathen nations. It was a symbol of cleansing. The work that Jesus did on the cross made it possible for us to be set apart from the world and be cleansed from our sins. The work has been done. Those who want the benefits must receive—by faith—the Son of God’s work for them personally.

We need to put off our sinful nature. It is our sinful nature that causes us to be enemies of God and cripples us from walking in obedience with Him. This sinful nature is dealt with not by the hands of men, but with the circumcision done by Christ!

Have you received Jesus Christ into your heart? If so, you are cleansed—forgiven of all your sins! Rejoice!

“Father, my human weaknesses cause me to take for granted, and even forget, all you did in me and for me when Jesus saved me. Thank you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
