Our most authentic witness is what the Lord means to us, personally

Power over Weakness
God Has Given! – Part 2

Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 1:8-11

Key Verse: 2 Timothy 1:7

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

As we continue to talk about the spirit of power that God gives us, we see the Apostle Paul explain what that power is for in our lives.  In the next verse, we see that God’s power is to be used to tell people about the Lord.  We need God’s power in order to boldly tell our testimony of Jesus in us.  Our witness does not need a Ph.D. in theology.  We don’t need to worry that we can’t answer all their questions.  Our only authentic witness is what the Lord means to us; how He works in our lives.  Telling our personal story doesn’t take eloquence of speech, only the power of God upon us (2 Timothy 1:8).

Paul continues with the purpose of God’s power in verse nine: “For God saved us and called us to live a holy life…”  In this wicked world, with so many evil influences, how can anyone truly live a holy life?  The only real answer is: by the power of God in us!  We are all weak in some areas of holiness; that is part of our fallen nature.  The question is: How do we deal with the weaknesses of our flesh?  Some people justify their weaknesses.  Their motto is: “Everyone sins, so no worries.”  Unfortunately, though that would be an easy answer, it is not biblical.  The Apostle Paul wrote: “…since we died to sin, how we can continue to live in it?” (Romans 6:1-2)

Sin is broken by the power of God in us.  We call on that power when faced with temptation to sin.  God promises us victory!  (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Father, by your power I will share my testimony as you open the opportunities.  I will live a holy life by your power and promises.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
