Authentic Leaders Lead at Home
Scripture Reading: Acts 4:8-17
Key Verse: Acts 4:13
When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
Like everything else, our home environments have changed over the years. The traditional roles of husbands and wives have changed as work habits changed, especially the wives working outside the home. Most men are unsure of the role in the home that they should take. Too many men decide to not decide and fade into the background.
It takes courage to be an authentic leader in the home, but our homes are desperate for good, biblical leadership. The good news is: God gives courage to those who give their hearts and lives to Him. In our scripture for today we see Peter and John dealing with the rulers and elders of the Jewish community. After they had dealt with this interaction for a short time, the rulers and elders saw something in Peter and John that surprised them: Courage! Even though they knew that Peter and John were “unschooled, ordinary men”!
God gives courage to those who seek Him. I personally include a request for God’s courage to be evident in me. It is not something that comes as a “feeling” on the spot. I’m sure Peter and John didn’t particularly feel courageous, but they were when it was needed. Men, I believe we especially need God’s courage working in us. Let’s ask Him for it!
Father, I’m not sure what I will be facing today, but I know that I will need your courage to handle it properly. I ask for courage in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
