It is with the promises of God that we “demolish arguments” that cause us fear

Fear’s Breeding Ground
The Battle of the Mind – Part 4

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NLT

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 10:5 NLT

We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

Continuing from yesterday’s devotional, a third step needed to win this war over fear-filled thinking is to claim a promise of God for your life. This might be a verse for the circumstance you are in now that is causing you to fear. As circumstances change, you may want to change to another promise of God that fits that struggle. There are three basic promises for living this life that I like to claim for my struggles. The first is for divine strength and I turn to Philippians 4:13 for my promise: “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”

The second promise that I claim for my daily battles, is found in James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who give generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” Finally, a third basic promise is about courage, which I need in fighting my battles with fear. For this promise, I claim Philippians 1:20-21, “I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

It is with the promises of God that we “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God,” according to the Apostle Paul’s own words. In other words, the devil will throw fear-filled thoughts into our minds to destroy our peace. We must be ready to throw God’s promises into the devil’s face to destroy his power over us! This battle is not easy; it’s why I call it war! But we have weapons much stronger than his!

Father, I refuse to lose the battle of fear. I claim your promises and walk by faith. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
