We are not told to argue people into God’s kingdom. We are to love them in

Spiritual Praises of the Holy
Our Job – Part 2

Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 2:9-12

Key Verse: 1 Peter 2:9

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

Yesterday we looked at why we have a job in God’s kingdom. Today, let’s study the title God gives each of us: a royal priesthood. You and I become priests the moment we accept God’s invitation to be part of His family; that is our title. The title reminds us that just as Jesus didn’t come to earth to be served but to serve, we are saved from our sins so that we can serve in God’s kingdom.

The Apostle Paul makes this case in Ephesians 4:11-12: “It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up…” Note once again the emphasis on service; that is what a priest does: serves. If you are a Christ follower, your biblical title is priest and you are part of God’s royal priesthood.

We are to start each day with the attitude of a servant. While the world has an attitude of entitlement and wants to be served, we are to humbly accept our role as a servant. We are to look for ways to help others, praying they will see Jesus in us. We are not to argue people into God’s kingdom. We are to love them into His arms. Even an atheist responds well to the helping hand of a loving person!

Father, I accept my title and role as a priest in your kingdom. I will go serve people today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
