Determine to Meet with Him
Are you a Devotee? – Part 1

Scripture Reading:  Colossians 4:3-6

Key Verse: Colossians 4:20

I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you.

Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle Paul wrote, “Devote yourselves to prayer”!  The question for each of us to honestly answer is: Are we a devotee of prayer?  Webster defines the word “devote” as: to commit by a solemn act; to give over or direct to a cause, enterprise or activity.  A devotee is an ardent follower, supporter, or enthusiast.  Do either of those two definitions describe your attitude toward prayer?

Being a devotee doesn’t demand a “feeling” or even a “desire.”  Being a devotee demands action.  In fact, someone could talk a lot about some activity that they say they really love, but if they seldom participate in it they would hardly be considered a devotee!  An ardent follower or enthusiast to anything is one that actually participates in that activity.  When we devote ourselves to prayer, it will entail us truly spending much time in prayer.

Will you give yourself to prayer today?  Will you make a decision—a determination—that you will be a devotee?  If so, before this day is over, you must carve out time and pray.  God waits for us, inviting us to involve Him in our affairs.  He longs to be your companion as you walk through this day.  Will you allow God to be the friend He longs to be?  Devote yourselves to talking to your Savior!  (Continued)

Father, I know you care for me.  Thank you for inviting me to talk with you about everything in my life.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
