Getting Good with Change

Start anticipating the good things that will come because of change: That is joy!

Change Can Be Enjoyed
Consider it Joy

Scripture Reading: James 1:2-8

Key Verse: James 1:2

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,

I’ve heard others teach on this passage and say it is one of the toughest challenges in the scriptures. I think I agree! If we define joy as the world would, surely this wouldn’t make sense nor be attainable, but joy comes in levels. The level of joy that makes us “laugh out loud” is the most common definition. A deeper joy is to see your child graduate from college or conquer some other obstacle that stood before them.

When we have a good understanding of what a trial does for us, we start to get what James is teaching. While walking through a tough time, to stay focused on the good outcome—to trust God’s plan—produces a deep joy. To believe in God as a friend closer than a brother can bring a satisfying smile—a joy to our inner souls—when we are a trial. We can know that we know that God is in control. It is a joy to live life when we’ve surrendered our life over to God, through faith in His Son Jesus Christ!

Do you need to refocus this day? Are you walking through some unpleasant circumstances? Does it feel that you are under attack? If so, let’s refocus right now! God is on your side, always wanting your absolute best! If He has allowed a trial to go through His “Divine filter” into your life, then rejoice: God is on the move in you and for you! Joy will come in God’s “morning!” Start anticipating “good things” that will come to you because of what you are walking through: That’s joy!

Father, help my emotions catch up with my faith actions! Let me feel the joy of walking with you, even if you decide to continue the trial and testing! I ask this In Jesus’ Name, amen.
