The Christmas story started in the heart of God…a heart of love

Embrace His Virgin Birth
God Sent Gabriel

Scripture Reading: Luke 1:28-38

Key Verse: Luke 1:26-27

In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.

The Christmas story started in the heart of God.  Our printed key verse for today reminds us that it was God who initiated the plan that would save people from sin.  We don’t have an angry God who had to be appeased by Jesus.  We have an all loving God who was thinking of us long before we thought of Him.  “For God so loved the world that He gave His only son…” (John 3:16).

The second person we meet in our key verse is Gabriel—an angel serving God.  The announcement Gabriel was to give to Mary was not new to him.  He was the angel God sent to Daniel 500 years before to announce the time of the Messiah’s coming.  Gabriel was the angel used to bring the announcement to Zechariah about Jesus’ forerunner, John the Baptist’s birth.  This announcement about John the Baptist was approximately six months before Gabriel appeared to Mary.

I hope that on this Christmas day it thrills you to see the eternal detailed plan that God had planned from the beginning for you and His entire creation.  It is not His will that any perish (2 Peter 3:9).  God is on your side and has been since you took your first breath.  Christmas is special in our world.  Make sure you and yours make it special for all the right reasons!

Father, I worship you.  Your eternal covenant brought Jesus to our world that I might be saved.  I receive it by faith!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
