Change is Inevitable
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 4:14-21
Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 4:19
But I will come to you very soon, if the Lord is willing, and then I will find out not only how these arrogant people are talking, but what power they have.
The Apostle Paul was in the middle of dealing with some problems in the Corinthian church. He was making plans to visit and deal more directly with these issues than he could through a letter. What I want you to note is that amid his planning, Paul inserted: “if the Lord is willing.” The apostle had already experienced many “changes of plans” as he walked with God. He had learned to leave room for it in his agenda. The apostle was always aware that his plans may run into one of God’s “interruptions.”
How do you handle change in your life? Have you learned to expect it, look for it and, even, enjoy it? This process is not easy to handle for most people. The “control freaks” among us can really have some trouble with this part of their journey with God! Change is inevitable and, many times, it is God who is behind it.
God does, indeed, cause change at times. Are you willing to say with the Apostle Paul, “whatever the Lord wills.”? Is it ok with you to be out of control when it comes to the direction of your life? Can you surrender to the “Lordship” factor, and be okay with God calling the shots? By the way, it’s okay to be disappointed by life’s changes if we accept it with God’s grace!
Father, I’ll make my plans for today with a loose grip on my choices. May your will be done. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
