Trust God’s Opinion
You Are Light
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 5:1-7
Key Verses: Ephesians 5:8-9
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
God’s opinion of you, if you have received Jesus into your heart, is that you are light! Wherever you go, whatever you get involved with, whomever you converse with, are all affected by your “light.” When someone walks into a pitch-dark room and lights the smallest candle, that light becomes the focus.
Please note that the apostle Paul doesn’t say that we were once “in” darkness and now we are “in” the light. He speaks of us … our very beings: “We were once darkness, but now we are light in the Lord.” Before Jesus, every place we went became darker because we were there – we “were” darkness! It wasn’t particularly what we said or did that made us “darkness.” It was who we were. We had nothing but darkness in us and it defined us!
But now … because of our faith in God’s plan for our salvation through His Son Jesus Christ, we can shed our darkness and become light! (By the way, that is not my opinion – that is God’s opinion!) Paul notes that the results (or fruits) of light in us mean goodness, righteousness, and truth.
I didn’t print verse ten of this passage, but the apostle did give us an assignment, once we understand and accept God’s opinion of us: “Find out what pleases the Lord.” Those who are light, continuously seek more of God and how to imitate Him.
Father, I want you to use me today. I accept that I am ‘light’ to this dark world, so I’ll go shine for you. Open my eyes to more of you each day – I pray in Jesus’ Name, amen.
